Steam review bomb

Slay the Spire 2 review bomb

Three waves in three months of Early Access. The week of March 19, 2026 answered a beta balance patch that reworked infinite combos; the week of April 16 answered Major Update 1, with most reviews from accounts in China; the week of May 7 was about a consultant credit, not the game. Read as OneStar reads it, the March 19, 2026 wave was both: a wave about one event, with real complaints about the build inside it. The counts below are Steam's own.

The wave, counted

Slay the Spire 2 against its own median

The card shows the week or month that held the event as Steam counts it, against the game's median week or month, and whether it clears the rule OneStar uses: at least 20 reviews and more than 5 times the median.

How to read it

Three questions, in order

  1. How far above the median was it? A real wave is several times the usual volume, not a loud day. The ratio on the card is that number.
  2. What did the reviews name? An account, a credit or a price in another region is about something outside the game. Crashes, a nerf or a missing mode are about the build. A OneStar report answers this for the reviews it reads in the window, with the reviews behind each share.
  3. Did the thumbs down come back down? A bomb ends with its cause. A problem ends with the patch. The next week or month on Steam's history tells you which happened.

The method and the other six cases are on How to tell a review bomb from a real problem. For a patch instead of a wave, see What a patch did to your reviews.

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

The OneStar report on Slay the Spire 2 reads the reviews behind these counts. Run the same read on any game with the Steam review analyzer.

Why was Slay the Spire 2 review bombed?

Three times for three reasons. In March 2026 a beta branch balance patch nerfed a card and removed infinite combos; in April the first major update brought the same changes to the main branch, and most of the thumbs down came from accounts in China; in May the wave was about a consultant listed in the credits.

Were the balance complaints a real problem?

Partly. A balance patch that players dislike is about the build, so those reviews count as complaints about the game even when they arrive in a wave. The May wave was about something outside the game. A report that reads the words sorts the two apart.

How big were the waves against a normal week?

The numbers on this page come from Steam's own weekly counts: reviews in the week of each wave, the share of thumbs down, and the ratio to the game's median week.
